Gettin' Around

Ok..so this is like every bike in Japan. I still don't quite get it. Japan is SO advanced in technologies like cell phone, electronics, etc.. but when it comes to bikes, it's our 1950s standard bike, the kind Grandma used to ride. Maybe the bike is just seen as utilitarian or something..that's theonly thing I can think of, but EVERYONE - young, old, man, woman..has this kind of bike, for the most part. You do see some sportier models once in while, like the one to the right, or a mountain bike, but they are few and far between. I guess its a case of "if it's not broke, don't fix it" kind of thing. Also, no one rides in the streets - its all sidewalk and you know when one is coming up fast on you when you hear the tinny-sound of that old bell...watch out, they ride fast!!
